Reading this table
- Levels line up roughly, not exactly. Each board sets its own standard, so AGMS Grade Three and Trinity Grade 3 are close neighbours rather than twins. Each column shows the board's own name for the level.
- The technical work count is one item per key and type. C major hands separately and together counts once. Harmonic and melodic minor count as two. Dynamics and articulation are not counted. It measures how much there is to learn, not how hard it is.
- The table compares each board's full exam, which AMEB calls comprehensive: pieces, technical work and the other tests. Exam settings shows whether a board also runs a repertoire-only exam of pieces alone.
- An option means the student picks between tests, so they can leave this one out. Not stated means the syllabus does not say either way.
- Where it's examined is advice, not a rule. Most of these boards will examine anywhere. It is easier to deal with one that has someone local to ring.
- Always check the board's current syllabus before you enrol. These summaries were checked against each document on . If you spot something out of date, tell us at support@topmusic.co.
